Known as the "Father of Scouting" in Roswell, Jewett was instrumental in organizing and supporting early Scout troops, ensuring the growth of Scouting in our region.
Beyond his work with Scouting, Jewett was deeply rooted in the community. As President of the Roswell Chamber of Commerce, he fostered collaboration and rallied civic leaders to support the creation of the council. His leadership inspired the Chamber to back Scouting initiatives, such as the purchase of the Scout Clubhouse at 311 N. Pennsylvania in 1921.
Jewett also served as the Council Treasurer for 15 years, overseeing the financial stability of Scouting during its formative years. His commitment to youth programs and the outdoors was evident in his role as chairman of the committee that selected the site for Camp We-Hin-Ah-Pay in Potato Canyon, which became a cherished haven for thousands of Scouts.
📍 Jewett's influence reached beyond Scouting, strengthening the bonds of community and creating opportunities for young people to grow into leaders. His legacy continues to inspire us today.
