Minor Huffman

The heart of the Conquistador Council’s story begins with Minor S. Huffman, our first Scout Executive. Starting in 1925, Huffman dedicated himself to spreading the Scouting movement across nine counties in Eastern New Mexico.

Known for his hands-on leadership, Huffman played a vital role in establishing our first permanent camp, We-Hin-Ah-Pay, in Potato Canyon. His passion for adventure, education, and the values of Scouting shaped the lives of countless young people and leaders.

📚 Fun fact: Huffman later chronicled these early years in The Saga of Potato Canyon, preserving the history of Scouting in Southeast New Mexico for generations to come.  This book is available at the S.P. Yates Service Center

🎉 Let’s honor Minor Huffman’s lasting impact as we celebrate 100 years of adventure, leadership, and service!

💬 Do you have stories about Scouting at Camp We-Hin-Ah-Pay?

We’d love to hear them!
